Part Time, Permanent Position
Position Summary:
The Vocational Counselor works with adult individuals with all degrees of hearing loss who register with SDHHS and request vocational assistance. This specialized counseling position involves case coordination and management of consumers or clients who are Deaf, Deaf/Blind, Deafened and Hard of Hearing. The counseling focus is usually within the areas of employment, education and training.
Education & Experience:
A post secondary degree (Psychology, Social Work, Education, Career Counseling or equivalent)
Experience in career counseling
Solid understanding and knowledge of community resources and how to access them
Solid understanding of vocational rehabilitation issues
Knowledge and understanding of Deafness, Deaf culture and current issues as they pertain to the Deaf community
Strong understanding and interest in community education
Understanding and sensitivity to those with a hearing loss, different cultural or linguistic needs as well as different modes of Communication
Skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Excellent problem-solving skills
Strong multi-tasking skills
Fluency in ASL or willing to learn to the level required for this position
Strong team player
Strong ability to take initiative
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
A clean criminal record check is a condition of employment
Pay Range: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
