What An Interpreter Does... What An Interpreter Does Not...

 

Follow the tenets of the AVLIC Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
Keep all information confidential.
Remain impartial during all interpreting assignments and provide interpretation only. The interpreter will not give advice or their personal
opinion on anything that is discussed.
Remain at the location for up to 20 minutes after the scheduled time of the assignment. After 20 minutes the client will be considered
a no-show.
Interpret the intent and spirit of everything that is signed and spoken.
Consult with the consumers about the set-up of the room, etc.
An Interpreter Does Not...
Provide transportation to or from the scheduled appointment.
Provide counseling services before or after the assignment. Therefore, interpreters cannot answer your questions in regards to anything
discussed before, during or after the assignment.
Cross boundaries in regards to personal relationships with clients.
