Saskatchewan Deaf and

Hard of Hearing Services Inc.

The Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Inc.’s (SDHHS) Community Services Worker Program (CSW) is designed to encourage and support Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind, and Late-Deafened persons in Saskatchewan who are faced with personal or marital difficulties. Our efforts include providing counselling services for individuals and families struggling with personal issues, educating existing agencies about the special needs of persons living with a hearing loss, as well as bridging the gaps between support services offered by other agencies. SDHHS’s CSWs are linguistically and culturally fluent.

The program in Regina is funded through the Regina United Way and the Regina Association of the Deaf. Saskatoon’s program is funded by the Saskatoon United Way.

The Role Of A CSW
Counsellors work with individuals and families to provide choices and options where clients can take risks to succeed. By doing this they become more independent and empowered.  Couples, family, group, or one-on-one sessions are available.

CSWs also provide education to existing agencies regarding the needs of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind, and Late-Deafened persons.  This education can include client-focused training, group discussions, individual contact, and/or community focused seminars and workshops or presentations.

CSWs advocate the rights of clients by assisting them in obtaining services and resources in the community.  This includes addressing issues of accessibility and engaging in dialogue that impacts social policy. SDHHS also refers clients to other professionals, agencies and programs when needed.
