The purpose of the Computerized Note-taking Services(CNS) is to provide text for Deaf and hard of hearing persons to read in classroom settings, meetings, workshops, and other similar environments where CNS may be required.

CNS staff are required to keep all information confidential. Information regarding Deaf or hard of hearing persons and their related services will be kept in strict confidence. When there are two CNS staff teaming a session they will share information about the session to provide consistent quality of service.

CNS staff will not counsel, advise or interject their personal opinions and must remain neutral. The interpretation or translation shall be faithful to the message of the source language.

How Is The Service Performed?
The CNS provider types all spoken communication onto a laptop computer. Everything that is heard will be captured in real time including: lectures, videotapes, questions/comments, presentations, group activities and any other information relating to content or participant interaction. The CNS will sit beside the client requiring services and close to the presenter or speaker to clearly hear and see all visual aids utilized by the presenter. Environmental sounds, such as a knock on the door or a fire alarm, are also transcribed.

What Is The Cost?
Regular CNS service rates are $40 per hour (travel time is also charged at the same rate). There is a minimum of a 1.5 hour call-out charge for services, for a minimum charge of $60 per assignment.

Rates for after-business hours and weekends are $50 per hour, with a minimum of a 2 hour call-out charge for services, for a minimum charge of $100.

Assignment cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be charged as services rendered.

If travel is required, mileage is charged at a rate of $ .38/km.
